Protecting Our Rural Heritage
To Protect And Enhance Our Community Heritage
La Habra Heights is a unique city and has for its entire history relied on residents who have used their experience and knowledge to benefit the city by serving as volunteers, appointed committee members and elected officials. Margarita Mc Coy was one such resident who started me on a path to give my skills to protect our community’s rich rural heritage. My candidacy is my attempt to use my experience as a Planning Commissioner to assure that we continue to protect the goals of our general Plan.
Leadership
In 2001, I took on the role of CEO at the transportation company my wife founded, managing it until 2014. Throughout this period, I oversaw a team of over 200 employees and guided the company to $25 million in annual revenue, before transitioning leadership to the next generation.
Experience
I have a decade of land use planning experience specifically with the issues that face our city. During my time on the Planning Commission, I learned professional land use from Margarita McCoy, whose mentorship helped me understand the unique challenges of managing development in La Habra Heights.
Supportive
I strongly support enhancing fire prevention through a non-profit organization – Fire Watch – by coordinating our Fire Marshal effort with our Code Enforcement staff so that properties are made safer and pose less risk to us all in a coordinated and cost-effective manner.
Together, We Can Make A Better Community
Wildfire Risk Management
As executive manager of Fire Watch, I expanded wildfire preparedness efforts and introduced fire-hardening products, all while collaborating with the Fire Department. I will continue to strongly support their work.
Financial Management
Our city’s revenue relies mainly on property taxes and user fees, with limited funds for road repairs. I aim to enhance financial management and help establish a more consistent process of seeking grants to deal with the effects of climate change on our community.
A Tribute to Margarita McCoy
Margarita McCoy served nine years on the La Habra Heights Planning Commission, she influenced my commitment to adhering to the General Plan, which guides balanced development and nature preservation and I will respect if elected.
I will work to return our land use development to more closely reflect the goals expressed in our General Plan.
As you will see, our General Plan is the Constitution of our city and contains the goals necessary in order to protect our rural environment through one acre parcels, setbacks to protect our neighbors privacy, vegetative screening to minimize the visual intrusiveness of a property, a dark skies policy to better enjoy the beauty of our skies, and the requirement that land development must blend with its surrounding natural and man made settings in an harmonious manner. Enjoy the read.
